Russia to fulfil all agreements on energy supply to India: FM Lavrov

While Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov promised that agreements on energy supply to India will be fulfilled despite unfair foreign competition, he underlined that relations between the two countries are based on friendship and that there is no scenario where they will part ways.
In an interview with Russia Today-India Ahead of his visit to New Delhi this week, Mr Lavrov also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying he was one of the most energetic leaders the world has ever seen.
“I can guarantee that India’s interests regarding Russian supplies will not be harmed. We will do everything to ensure that this unfair and dishonest competition does not harm our agreements,” he said.
Mr. Lavrov noted that Russia has never failed to fulfill its obligations to India or anyone else regarding energy supplies.
“Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant is our flagship project. It meets a significant part of India’s needs,” he said. “Cooperation on the construction of new power units for this nuclear power plant is ongoing. Even so, India needs more. We continue to supply hydrocarbons such as gas, oil and coal.”

Kudankulam nuclear power plant is being built in Tamil Nadu with technical support from Russia. Construction started in March 2002. The first power unit of Kudankulam NPP has been operating stably since February 2016 with a design capacity of 1,000 MW.
According to Russian state media, the facility is expected to start operating at full capacity in 2027.
Mr Lavrov said Prime Minister Modi was “one of the most energetic leaders the world has ever known”.
“He has great energy and directs it towards extremely important goals, such as achieving maximum sovereignty in all spheres: economy, military, defence, culture and the preservation of India’s civilizational wealth, unmatched by any other country.”
Mr. Lavrov said that relations between India and Russia are based on friendship and there is no scenario where they will part ways.
Answering a question, he said, “There is no single word for these relationships. Not because human languages are not rich enough, but because it is difficult to imagine a relationship this full and deep.”
“A situation where we part ways is absolutely out of the question, it is unthinkable. We started our conversation with friendship, which is the basis of Russia-India relations,” Mr. Lavrov said.
Saying ‘Indo-Russi bhai bhai’ (Indians and Russians are brothers), Lavrov said that this is not just a fun slogan to say, it has become a part of our culture.
“Indian cinema, Raj Kapoor, newer television series and films; they are immensely popular everywhere, in every corner in Russia. The economy, joint energy production, military cooperation, nuclear and other forms of energy, cultural and humanitarian ties, and high-level political dialogue marked by unprecedented trust – all this is very solid,” he said.
“Therefore, everyone who is concerned about the future of Russia-India friendship can be assured. We must always be aware of the threats that some pose to our relations, trying to undermine them, creating closed structures and trying to impose their own rules on how to deal with Russia. We and our Indian friends see all this. This makes it even more valuable that these attempts continue to fail,” Lavrov added.
During his visit to India, Mr. Lavrov will meet his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar and attend the BRICS Foreign Ministers meeting. In the statement made by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was stated that the two ministers will exchange views on current international and regional issues.
“Special attention is expected to be paid to the situation in the Middle East. Ministers are also expected to compare notes on cooperation within the UN, BRICS and G20,” the statement said. expressions were used.

It was stated that the two Ministers will discuss a wide range of priority areas of bilateral cooperation.
“These include expanding trade, intensifying efforts to create sustainable transportation, logistics and financial channels protected from unlawful external pressures, deepening energy cooperation and increasing cooperation in science and space technology,” the ministry said.
