CPIM Appeals Kerala Cadres To Observe Achuthanandan’s Remembrance Day

Thiruvananthapuram: Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] While asking his cadres to celebrate the first death anniversary of former Kerala chief minister and veteran communist leader VS Achuthanandan across the state on Friday, he accused the BJP-led central government and the Congress-led UDF government of pursuing policies that undermine the interests and secular values of the state.
Achuthanandan, one of the founding leaders of the party, dedicated his life to protecting the country and leading struggles for workers, farmers, social justice and economic equality, the CPI(M) state secretariat said in a statement.
“The first death anniversary of VS Achuthanandan, the founding leader of the CPI(M) and the communist who led numerous struggles to protect the country, should be celebrated appropriately on July 21,” the statement said. The statement was included.
The party said Achuthanandan joined the communist movement in 1940 as a 17-year-old coconut mill worker, took part in the Punnapra-Vayalar uprising, later became a member of the CPI(M) Politburo and served as the chief minister of Kerala.
He stated that he is at the forefront of struggles for land rights, environmental protection, gender equality, human rights and secularism.
Using this opportunity to launch a political offensive, the CPI(M) alleged that the Sangh Parivar was trying to destroy “all positive values” enshrined in the Constitution and accused the BJP-led central government of ignoring people’s concerns.
He said even nationwide examinations have been undermined time and time again and alleged that the Center was trampling on people’s demands.
The party also criticized the UDF government in Kerala, claiming that it came to power through “false propaganda” and was implementing the policies of the BJP-led central government.
He alleged that the state government remained silent against the Centre’s policies in its policy speech and Budget speech and supported the BJP’s agenda of “saffronisation” of universities in Kerala.
The CPI(M) also alleged that the state government was pushing forward the Vizhinjam port project despite its importance for the development of Kerala “to the detriment of the interests of the state”.
