Netflix’s recent specials have become famous for their panelists’ jokes about their divorces, dead relatives, and many other taboo topics.
Gillis specifically joked about slavery and lynching, saying of little Hart: “Kevin is so short they’ll have to lynch him from the bonsai tree.” He later said on his podcast that this joke “could have done without it” and that it was told to the “wrong crowd” after being successful in previous shows.

Handler, an outspoken liberal entertainer, recently made waves by condemning some jokes, particularly Gillis’ jokes, during an interview on Deon Cole’s “Funny Knowing You” podcast.
He claimed that as he prepared to roast other comedians like Gillis at the event, he learned that “they’re racist, they’re bigoted, they’re sexist, you know, they think they’re invincible.”
“It was disgusting. It was disgusting,” he said of the racist jokes at the event. “I don’t find these jokes funny. Jokes about lynching black people… lynching is not a joke. This is worse than rape.”
He said he wasn’t afraid of anything, the truth that angered him, and said, “I’m 51, so I’m pretty sure of who I am,” adding that he didn’t care if people condemned him as immoral. “I’m rich, famous and hot. So I fuck people.”

But the biggest talking point at the event was Gillis making fun of her past relationship with the late, disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Gillis joked about the roast, saying, “Chelsea is a Zionist. I’m not saying that’s good or bad; speaking of dead children, she’s a big fan of abortion. Chelsea is more scraped than the grill at Benihana.” “Speaking of shoving small shrimp into a child’s mouth, Chelsea Handler went to Jeffrey Epstein’s house for dinner in 2010.”
He added: “You can look it up. There are articles. It didn’t look like a big party, there were about seven people there. It looked like Prince Andrew and Woody Allen were there.”
