Millie Bright: Chelsea defender says withdrawing from Euros was ‘best decision I ever made’

Last summer, Chelsea replaced Emma Hayes, while Sonia Bompastor was perhaps the most difficult task in women’s football.

However, you would not have guessed this after a season when Blues won the WSL, FA Cup and League Cup and lost to Barcelona in the Women’s Champions League semifinals.

Although he was guided by the French woman for only a year, Bright established a similar relationship with Hayes, who left the blue to assume the responsibility of Bompastor and the US Women’s National Team.

“It is really special to be able to experience this and have two separate managers,” Bright added.

“I could still go to him for everything to feel that you had this open door policy, and it was incredible during the summer.

“I know if I needed him, I could go to him. You feel really lucky to have it.”

Bright said that returning to Chelsea is a “really refreshing” and now continues to go to the new campaign.

“I was eager to go back to the field and finally to be painless with my knee, and after every session, I didn’t explode and actually walk down the stairs after a difficult day.”

“I don’t feel I’ve never lost the buzz, but I’ve been so drained that I was very ready for a break. But now I’m very ready for the first game and I’m going back there.”

Chelsea, who won the last six WSL championships and demanded the two trophy competitions last season, is dominant in women’s football.

Before the opening of the Stamford Bridge against Manchester City on Friday, September 5, Bright said that his side would not stand on the bay, especially the first popular Champions League.

“You can’t stand still,” he added. “You should look at every factor of the game, what we do and the Chelsea model.

“We have achieved a lot, but we really did not reach anything we want. We want to do it all again. We don’t just want it, we want everything. We want to be even better.

“Every other team has grown and strengthened, and every team will want to win like us.

“The scary, but this exciting part is to go to another level.”
