Sheikh Hasina says ties with India resilient; thanks PM Modi
Hasina thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people of India for their support, calling India Bangladesh’s closest neighbor and most important partner.
She told news agency IANS that the two countries are bound by shared history, geography, and a mutual commitment to regional stability and pointed out that a stable and democratic Bangladesh is in the interests of both nations.
Hasina affirmed that it is right for India to continue emphasizing democratic principles, protection of minorities and regional stability, and to seek a reliable partner in Dhaka, led by a democratically elected government that reflects the will of the people.
National elections are planned to be held in Bangladesh on February 12.
Hasina said she is confident that the foundations of the bilateral relationship are strong enough to withstand current challenges and will grow even stronger when Bangladeshis can freely choose their next government.
Hasina stated that she believes that bilateral relations will stabilize when democratic processes are re-established, and reiterated that strong India-Bangladesh relations are vital for regional peace and cooperation.
