Shell denies it’s looking to buy energy rival BP

26 June 2025 17:03 | News

The British oil giant Shell reported that the competitor BP was in talks.

Wall Street Journal on Wednesday said Shell organized “early stage talks ve to buy BP and referred to people familiar with the issue.

Shell, on Thursday, said in a statement to the London Stock Exchange, in response to the last media speculation, he did not actively think of making an offer for BP and confirmed that he did not make an approach with BP and that no interviews were held, ”he said.

Shell has repeatedly rejected the speculation that he was focusing on regulating and simplifying his own business and that he was thinking of taking over the smaller opponent BP.

Some analysts suggested that BP’s focus would be an attractive inheritance after the plan to shift the previously abandoned renewable energy in 2025, leaving their shares worthless compared to other oil companies.

The BP also fought to get rid of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon disaster, which killed 17 workers and forced the company to pay billions of dollars for environmental damage in the Gulf of Mexico.
