Bhubaneswar woman fakes gunfire, bombs her own house to get gun licence, now absconding

Ghunguru Misra, 38, is accused of planning the fake attack, according to authorities. While he is currently absconding, three of his associates – Debasis Mohapatra (24), Santosh Mahakud (25) and his driver Chandan Nayak (27), who already has a criminal record, have been arrested.
The investigation began after Misra filed two complaints, one on September 11 and the other on October 5, alleging that unidentified persons attacked his house in Bhubaneswar’s Bharatpur area. Security cameras on his property reportedly showed bomb-throwing and gunfire on the nights of September 10 and October 4. Misra publicly accused the police of negligence, claimed his life was threatened and requested a firearms license to protect himself.
However, police later discovered that Misra had applied for a gun license months before these alleged attacks took place. The arrested trio admitted during interrogation that the events were organized under Misra’s instructions.
Commissioner of Police S. Dev Datta Singh stated that Misra’s real aim was to concoct a life-threatening scenario to speed up firearm license approval. “He seemed keen to create a sense of power in his area,” Singh said, adding that police teams were now tracking his whereabouts.
Officials have confirmed that his gun license application will be rejected due to fraud. Police also criticized him for causing unnecessary panic and disrupting public order. An unlicensed firearm and a large number of bullets, reportedly supplied by Misra, were seized from the defendants.
