Shots fired as large sum taken from van
An armored van carrying cash was robbed at gunpoint north of Brisbane, with the thief taking a “significant sum” of cash before escaping.
The police said Armaguard tool He was stopped at Hervey Bay shopping center at around 6.30am on Tuesday after a man approached a security guard in a minibus.
Both men were armed.
A clash broke out between the two at the Ibis Street shopping centre, and police said the security guard fired but no one was injured.
Officers said the thief then fled the scene in an orange Ford Ranger with a “significant sum of cash” but was stopped by police on Craignish Road, about 10 kilometers away, about an hour later.
He was taken into custody, although officers have not yet filed charges.

A police spokesman said investigations were continuing on Tuesday morning, with Maryborough’s criminal investigations branch preparing to release details in the afternoon.
