Sick child murderer Axel Rudakubana enjoys Harry Potter books in jail | UK | News

Restrictions on the length of time the Southport killer remains in prison have reportedly been relaxed. Axel Rudakubana is serving a 52-year prison sentence after killing Alice Da Silva Aguiar, nine, Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and Bebe King, six, at a dance class in July last year. He was reportedly held in solitary confinement at HMP Belmarsh after using his kettle to throw boiling water at a guard, which was then taken from him. Rudakubana’s other restrictions have now been relaxed, meaning he can be with other prisoners, get regular exercise and make phone calls. He also has a television and reads Harry Potter books.

A source told Sun: “Rudakubana is now allowed to go out more and is not under such heavy escort. It doesn’t matter what the prisoners do, they need to be examined and evaluated based on recent behavior. This is truly surprising and the public would be shocked. He has a TV and DVD player in his cell and makes regular calls, including to his parents.”

Rudakubana also has regular visits from an imam. The source said: “The imam is teaching him the true meaning of Islam. He talks to him about rejecting violence and tries to radicalize him.”

The killer also has sessions with psychologists and therapists. The Prison Service said: “We do not comment on individuals.”

Axel Rudakubana murdered three teenage girls and stabbed several others at a Taylor Swift-themed holiday club in Southport last summer.

In January the teenager was sentenced to at least 52 years in prison for the “sadistic” murders, which were described in court as “shocking” and “pure evil”.

An investigation in September found Rudakubana had been released from mental health services just six days before the attack. He was described as “isolated” and obsessed with knives and extreme violence.

Rudakubana was expelled from school and referred to the anti-radicalisation Prevent plan three times. He was interviewed by counterterrorism officers, but this concern was not raised because he had no clear ideology.
