‘Signals are flashing red’ over potential Trump election interference

David Axelrod warned Friday about possible election interference in the midterm elections after President Trump fired the remaining Democratic members of the Election Assistance Commission on Thursday.

“All the signals are flashing red, the latest being @POTUS’ mass dismissal of the remaining Federal Election Assistance Commission members,” the Democratic strategist wrote in a post. social media post.

The commission is a bipartisan, independent board established in 2002 to assist voters in participating in the election process and to assist election officials. Republican member Christy McCormick also resigned Thursday.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (DY) criticized the firings as “a brazen attempt to seize control of our elections.” in a statement.

“Senate Democrats will fight this power grab at every turn,” he wrote. “The 2026 elections will be decided by the American people, not Donald Trump.”

The White House attempted to justify the move by saying in a statement that Trump “reserves the right to remove individuals who may not be fully compatible with the important mission of securing America’s elections and ensuring that every legal vote is counted.”

The president repeated false claims of widespread voter fraud in 2020 and ordered his administration to investigate voting records from the election after his loss to former President Biden.

Axelrod also cited the president’s controversial appointment of Bill Pulte as acting director of National Intelligence, his executive order targeting mail-in voting and his “pathological prioritization” of the Voter Eligibility Act to Preserve America.

This law, which places proof of citizenship requirements on voter registration and requires photo identification when voting, “will be the most powerful voter suppression tool in generations,” according to Axelrod.

The political strategist said in a post on social platform “So he comes up with Plan B; do whatever you have to do to win. No matter what. Anyone who said, ‘Well, he won’t do that’ paid attention to that. He’s already proven he will!”

Axelrod also warned that the effects of the midterm elections could be “even more turbulent.”

“The courts will be very busy this fall,” he added.
