Singing in the bath: summer gigs bring noise back to Bath’s Roman attraction | Somerset

When the night falls and the large bathrooms are empty, the shining lights and shadows often turn into a quiet place. But it’s not on weekends this summer.
DJs and musicians will be installed next to the steam water and turn the historical area in the city of Bath into a party space.
“This is a departure for us, an experiment,” Archeology Director Amanda Hart said. Roman Baths. “We want people to experience the bathrooms in a different way and perhaps attract a slightly different audience – visitors who will not come to the bathrooms.”
Summer Lates Music series promises DJs Disco, Funk, Bible and Jazz, as well as live acoustic sets. It is not clear whether people will dance. Hart, we are not all sure about how people will react, Hart said Hart. “Maybe people will dance a little.”
But what would the Romans do? Hart said that there was no certain evidence that music was stolen in the bathrooms in the south-west of England 2,000 years ago. Music was important in ancient Rome and was played on social occasions, ceremonies and glasses.
Hart, “I think we can do the assumption that music is stolen in the bathrooms,” he said. “It was a very social place. People wanted to be seen and hang out there, and some people did business there and ate there.
“This was not just a place to join and participate in the bathroom routine. It was a place to meet and have fun. We take this idea. These were not quiet, thoughtful places.”
Roman philosopher Seneca wrote lively how young bathrooms could be. He lived once He explained the noise just above the bathroom’s bathrooms and in a letter: the arguments of a thief, Hullabaloo, the cacophony of a baster who thinks he was a wrong singer, a leap of a person who jumped into the water.
“Think of the different shouting of the beverage seller, sausage seller and pastry seller and all the wear hawks, each of which sells their goods with their own personal cry,”.
