After receiving his knighthood, David and his family visited Cliveden House and Spa in Berkshire to celebrate his achievement.
The five-star hotel and spa, set on 376 acres of National Trust land, welcomed the family for an afternoon of food and drink, including family photos at the stately home.
25 trophies, 115 England caps, five international tournaments and countless priceless goals later, David added to his accolades when he received the famous medal that eluded him during his 21-year trophy-filled career.
The King and his new knight, who have formed a heartwarming friendship in recent years thanks to their shared love of gardening and bees, smiled, shook hands and chatted briefly during the moving ceremony.
Speaking later, Sir David admitted he became emotional as he received the top honour, and revealed Charles complimented him on the suit Victoria had designed and gifted him.
‘I have been very lucky in my career to earn what I have and to do what I do, but to receive a knighthood honor like this is beyond anything I ever thought I would receive,’ he said.
