SIR forms to reach all voters, mapped or unmapped: Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer

The CEO tried to clear doubts among people when the SIR exercise began on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters after collecting his own counting form and submitting it at his home, Anbukkumar said that the month-long door-to-door distribution exercise has started across the state and urged voters to cooperate with BLOs.
“Even if a voter has not yet been mapped, the count form will still be delivered to the voter’s home,” he said.
The CEO explained that voters do not need to submit any documents during the counting phase.
“Even I did not submit any documents. During the counting phase, all voters only need to fill in the information available in the 2002 electoral rolls. That is all we want.” he said. He also reiterated that sending photos is not mandatory.
“It is not mandatory. However, if the current photo is old, please provide a new one,” he said.
The official added that if the voter does not have a mobile phone at the ready, BLOs can take a new photo using their mobile phones.
Anbukkumar said that there are 5.56 crore voters in Karnataka, of which more than 5.09 crore have been mapped, while mapping of the remaining voters is ongoing.
He said that only people whose names are included in the voter rolls as of June 16, 2026 will receive census forms from their registered addresses.
The CEO also said that the qualification date is October 1, 2026 and those who have attained the age of 18 by then can submit Form 6 to be included in the electoral roll.
“I welcome all new voters. Please register and we will be sure to add your name to the voter list,” he said.
The Election Commission launched the house-to-house SIR exercise in Karnataka on Tuesday to prepare an updated electoral roll.

Door-to-door distribution of census forms will continue until July 29; The draft electoral roll will be published on August 5, and the final list will be published on October 7.
