Sky customers could get £290 refund for popular service | UK | News

Sky customers can demand a refund as the broadcaster discontinues a major product after less than three years. The Sky Live service will be shut down completely next month, leaving some customers able to claim up to £290. Sky Live was first introduced as an add-on camera for Sky Glass televisions in June 2023. The device allowed users to participate in motion-controlled games, watch Sky Sports football matches online with friends, and even send personalized video messages.
The product came with a high price tag. It was sold for £290 up front or was available to Sky Glass customers on a repayment plan of £6 per month for 48 months. Sky Live is expected to stop operating on December 4. The move comes just weeks after the streaming giant cut 600 jobs, mostly hitting tech teams.
A Sky representative said: “Innovation has always been at the heart of Sky, finding new ways to make the TV experience even better for our customers. Sky Live has been part of that journey and we’re proud of the ambition behind it. It’s given us valuable insights that help shape the future of our products.”
“However, we have made the difficult decision to stop this in order to focus our investment on what is most important to our customers. Over the past few years we have launched the next generation of Sky Glass TVs in Gen 2 and Air, which we continue to make even smarter through new updates to Sky OS. We have the fastest broadband speeds of any major provider in the UK and have launched 5-star home insurance with Sky Protect.”
“We realize this news may be disappointing to those who enjoy using Sky Live and we are sorry.
“We also know our customers love Sky Live games, which is why we’ve invested in Sky Glass & Stream to offer more games for all our customers to enjoy. There’s something for everyone in the family, including the newly released Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, arcade games like PacMan, child-friendly games from Teletubbies and Spongebob, as well as card and strategy games like Solitaire and Chess.”
Sky Live customers will be entitled to a refund of the amount they paid for their Sky Live device. This will be automatically sent to the direct debit account in their Sky Account within three weeks from 4 November, or to the card used to make the purchase if they have paid in full.
