Sky News grinds to a halt for breaking Keir Starmer announcement | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Sky News presenter Sean Fletcher broke a story about Sir Keir Starmer this afternoon. As the breaking news flashed on the screen, the journalist reported that the Prime Minister welcomed Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to Downing Street today.
Fletcher said: “Prime Minister Keir Starmer welcomes his Japanese counterpart ahead of next week’s G7 summit in France. The Prime Minister meets Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi at Number 10. Britain and Japan agree £18bn investment deal expected to create tens of thousands of jobs.”
“Discussions will also include helping UK defense firms access Japanese investment and frankly throughout the week we were hearing from defense firms about the resignation of the Defense Secretary and Dan Jarvis taking over and all the discussions around defense and how much we should spend on our defense industry.”
He added: “If they are open to the Japanese market, of course there will be an increase.”
Recently, Defense Minister John Healey and Armed Forces Minister Al Carns resigned as they blasted the government’s defense plans.
Speaking to the BBC after the coup, Starmer said defense spending was his “number one priority” and added that he had taken “tough decisions” to increase military funding.
The government has pledged to increase defense spending to 3.5% of GDP by 2035.
Asked about his position during the interview, Starmer added: “Whoever the Prime Minister is, they’re going to face the same prevailing winds that I’m facing, none of that is going to change.”
The leader also said: “Despite difficult circumstances, I was chosen to serve this country, that’s what I do.”
