Smriti Irani reacts to Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2’s reception, ADMITS ‘logon ko ghabrahat thi’ about her return to TV

In an exclusive short chat with DNA India, Smriti Irani reacted to her return to television with Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi Season 2 and also revealed how skeptical people were about her comeback.
Actress-politician Smriti Irani made a comeback to television in 2025 with the second season of her iconic show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Produced by Ekta Kapoor, Kyunki 2.0 continues Tulsi Virani’s (Smriti Irani) struggle to keep her parivar amidst different challenges. Season 2 of Kyunki opened with good numbers and after a brief decline, the series is on the rise again in TRP ratings.
Recently, Smriti Irani attended a special session titled ‘Revolutionary Content – Women, Television and 25 Years of Kyunki’ at FICCI Frames 2025 and celebrated the success of Kyunki 2 with the show’s creator and producer Ekta Kapoor and Vani Tripathi Tikoo. After the talk, Smriti joins DNA India for a brief conversation discussing the reception to the show. Ask Smriti how she analyzed the response to Kyunki 2.0 and she adds, “I am so grateful that we were able to connect with a contemporary audience with a family drama that highlights ageism, body shaming and the perversions that arise from complicated family situations in marriages spanning decades.” He also admits that the show has a following on OTT as well. “It is a matter of happiness for me that JioHotstar is seeing such tremendous numbers among urban viewers.”
Smriti’s comeback as an actress was met with some skepticism. The actress admits that even though she is confident about her second assignment, there are people who are not sure whether her second assignment as Tulsi Virani will be accepted or not. Was Smriti nervous before saying yes to Kyunki 2? Smriti laughs and concludes, “Mujhe ghabrahat nahi thi, par dusre logon ko mujhse ghabrahat zaroor thi (I wasn’t worried but people around me were skeptical about me),” she replies. Apart from acting, Smriti continues to be active in Indian politics. For those who don’t know, Season 2 of Kyunki is a limited series and the series will reportedly end after 150 episodes.
