SNAP: Trump’s SNAP decision stuns America! Government to partially fund benefits using contingency funds – The Economic Times Video

The Trump administration says it will restart SNAP food benefits but will pay only half of what people normally receive. The administration will use money from the Department of Agriculture’s emergency fund. The administration says there is only $4.65 billion in that fund to pay SNAP benefits, roughly half of the $8 billion in food assistance payments people receive each month. In a court filing, officials said that depleting that fund means “there will be no funds left for new SNAP applicants certified in November, for disaster relief, or as a buffer against the potential catastrophic consequences of a complete SNAP shutdown.” The Trump administration has ruled out taking any additional funding for SNAP, saying it could take money from other child nutrition programs, such as school lunch and breakfast programs.
