Parts of the UK are bracing for heavy snowfall later this month. WX Charts’ latest weather maps show snowfall in parts of Scotland as temperatures drop across the UK.
Maps show up to 10cm of snow could fall in the Scottish Highlands on Tuesday, October 21. There will be showers between 06.00 and 12.00 in the morning. Meanwhile, the mercury in Scotland will drop to 6°C at noon on October 21, and temperatures across the country are expected to remain in single digits.
Snow will fall as early as 6am and maps show heavy showers in the Scottish Highlands. In the most affected areas, the white stuff can fall at a rate of up to 10 cm per hour.
The snow will ease by 12pm but there will still be heavy showers across eastern parts of Scotland. At this point, temperatures will be 7C in Inverness and 8C in Edinburgh.
Although snow is not currently expected in England and Wales, temperatures are expected to remain quite low. The lowest temperature in Cardiff and Plymouth at 12:00 on 21 October will be 9 degrees.
Meanwhile, the temperature will be 9C in Newcastle and 10C in Birmingham. London is bracing for the hottest temperatures, with 14C forecast.
According to the Met Office’s long-range forecast for the UK from Monday 13 October to Wednesday 22 October, low pressure is expected to arrive from the west. This could bring unstable and windy conditions to parts of the country.
The forecaster expects low pressure systems to “dominate” from Thursday, October 23 through Thursday, November 6. He adds: “Occasional showers or longer rain, perhaps heavy in places.”

Dry and bright with sunny weather in the south after the fog areas have cleared. More cloudy in the north, light and scattered rain will affect parts of Northern Ireland and Cumbria until the afternoon. Strong winds in Scotland.
Tonight:
Cloud moves southwards towards central areas overnight, otherwise largely dry and clear weather prevails. Thicker clouds and rain are falling in western Scotland. Some fog patches then develop in the southwest.
Friday:
Friday is largely settled, with varying amounts of clouds, but with some sunny spells; The best of the sunshine in the northeast. Thicker clouds and scattered rain in western Scotland.
Outlook from Saturday to Monday:
High pressure dominates the weekend and Monday, bringing mostly dry conditions, light winds, sunny skies and near-average temperatures, but also cold nights and patches of fog. Near normal daytime temperatures.
