The culture shock of having a team from the Middle East based in Kansas City or a South Korean team passing through Philly is something many have been eagerly awaiting since the news of America hosting the World Cup becoming a reality in 2022.
Soccer fans all over social media got their wish on Saturday as the Spanish national team headed to Chattanooga, Tennessee, the jewel of the Smoky Mountains, and it’s safe to say there was some confusion about team and field matching.

The thought of a bunch of millionaire football players from metropolitan areas of Spain being exposed to East Tennessee is funny enough, but seeing their bus escort through the streets of downtown Chattanooga on a weekend when 85% of the people in the area haven’t been able to draft some of their best players from their roster is a sight to behold.
The internet seemed to think so, too, because fans in the X had a field day with videos from the Volunteer State this weekend.

Here’s what they come to: be out of breath — Embassy Suites in Chattanooga, as flamboyant European football fans clutch their pearls as they say FIFA would dare put a World Cup-winning nation in such a fly-by-night resort.

We also received video of dedicated fans chanting the name of youth sensation Lamine Yamal as he got off the team bus.
Hmm, maybe I was wrong about football fans in Tennessee. They really seem to know their stuff.
A group of Tennessee natives cheering on an 18-year-old player from Barcelona is objectively a hysterical thought, but the game has truly evolved in the 32 years since the United States last hosted the World Cup.
