Government appoints Lt Gen NS Raja Subramani (Retd) as next Chief of Defence Staff

The government has appointed Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani PVSM, AVSM, SM and VSM (Retd.), who will also serve as Secretary, Department of Military Affairs, as the next Chief of Defense Staff. He will assume office after Chief of Defense Staff General Anil Chauhan completes his term on May 30, 2026.

Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani is currently Military Advisor to the National Security Council Secretariat, effective 1 September 2025.

Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani has served in a wide range of conflicts and terrain profiles and has held a number of Command, Staff and Instructional appointments. He was also awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Sena Medal and Vishisht Seva Medal.
