Sonos Makes Marketing Cuts as New CMO Reshapes Division

(Bloomberg) — Sonos Inc. On Wednesday, it eliminated jobs on its marketing team, with new Chief Marketing Officer Colleen DeCourcy telling employees that the division had “become something that is too disorganized to move at the pace this brand needs.”

“The redesign is not an adjustment to headcount, but an attempt to fix the underlying structure to build something better with clearer work and shortening the distance between a decision and its outcome,” DeCourcy, who joined the audio brand in January, wrote to employees in a memo shared with Bloomberg News.

Sonos declined to specify how many employees were affected by the outages.

Formerly Snap Inc. and marketing firm Wieden Kennedy, DeCourcy was brought in by Sonos Chief Executive Officer Tom Conrad to help focus the company’s advertising and marketing efforts around its signature whole-home audio system.

Prior to DeCourcy’s hiring, longtime Sonos executive Lindsay Whitworth was leading the marketing team on an interim basis following the departure of former CMO Jordan Saxemard in early 2025. Saxemard was among the C-suite members who quickly pursued former CEO Patrick Spence after a disastrous software overhaul that nearly upended Sonos’ business.

The stock price rebounded from the worst of this controversy but is down 21% so far this year.

Just this week, Sonos launched its first new consumer hardware products in more than a year, led by the $299 Sonos Play portable speaker. So far, the company is following its usual marketing tactics to highlight the device’s versatility and strong integration with the broader Sonos ecosystem.
