Sophie Cunningham re-signs with Indiana Fever on one-year deal

Sophie Cunningham has emerged as one of the leaders for the Indiana Fever during the 2025 season, fiercely defending Caitlin Clark and other teammates at various points throughout the year.

Cunningham was asked if he would return to Indiana for at least the 2026 season now that he is a free agent. However, he decided to return to the Fever on Sunday.

The team announced that Indiana and Cunningham agreed to a one-year contract.

Cunningham played 30 games for Indiana before having his season cut short due to an MCL tear. He averaged 8.6 points per game and shot a career-high 43.2% from three-point range.

The Fever expect him to be an important piece for the team as they look to enter the title race.

“I think he’s always ready to step in and do whatever it takes to win,” Fever general manager Amber Cox said.

Despite the injuries to Cunningham and Clark, Indiana finished third in the Eastern Conference with a record of 24-20. Indiana defeated the Atlanta Dream in the first round of the playoffs but lost to the Las Vegas Aces in five games in the semifinals.
