Friday Screenshots Let’s start with the news that summer has officially started here as the summer baseball season ended last night in the second round of the NW Ohio 14U playoffs.
The kids battled through three innings and were down 5-2 to a 14-year-old who was throwing flames, then they went to the pen and brought in a 14-year-old who was throwing our kids off balance and was swinging around the greens, throwing flames, throwing trash balls.
Screencaps Jr. He came, tasted a high mound for the first time in nearly two months, and struggled. After a few walks and tough singles, we were coming home with a 12-2 loss. Our opponent didn’t hit a single ball over our court, but they probably put 8-10 singles into the hole.

My message after the match to end the season was simple: You guys did not give up after facing difficulties early in the season. We were in complete disarray at the start, but the boys won five in a row before losing last night. I explained how a boxer can be a turtle against opponents he fears.
We didn’t become turtles last night. I had a kid throw an 85 mph fastball into the small of his back, one of the meanest swings you’ll ever see or hear. The child could have been a turtle. Gathering his breath and refusing to show that he was in pain, the boy stood up and stole second base.
The kids have been mentally and physically challenged this season. They then move on to other sports and activities. I hope I made a difference in their lives this summer.
Brief observations from last night:
- The opposing coach came to me before the game and said that they had a child who had just recovered from anterior cruciate ligament surgery, that they only wanted to use a pinch runner for the child and that they wanted to protect his knee as much as possible. No problem, let’s play ball. Guess who threw the 4th inning and landed on the reconstructed knee? Yes, 5’11, 250 lbs. with a bum ACL. I’m no doctor, but landing with that much weight on a reconstructed knee was probably worse than running.
- Fake raised mounds are garbage. They are ridiculously high for 14U rec kids and look ripe for injury. Our children transition from shooting on slightly raised or no raised mounds to standing on a platform. This is a big problem for our league because we don’t use mounds in the regular season.

There it is, Caitlin Clark’s enforcer, looking like she didn’t skip a leg the day before last night’s game in Phoenix. By the way, what about Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White’s refusal to respond to a letter sent by OutKick’s Dan Zaksheske to the WNBA by members of Congress wondering whether Clark’s treatment was racially motivated?
White refused to respond to the letter. He’s so weak. The anti-straight White women league continues.
Gentlemen, you don’t need to contact John Boehner about mowing the lawn. I’m sitting here next to my phone. I can tell you why white-collar America wants its gardens to look pristine. Because we don’t want to look like absolute slobs. White collar workers and millions of blue collar workers have worked their butts off to buy homes and create amazing properties for YEARS.
My biggest issue with this title is the white collar modifier. We should all be obsessed with taking great care of our properties. We should smile with pride when we mow on Thursday night and look at our lawns as the sun sets. We should puff our chests out when someone compliments the look of our property.
I believe pride in ownership leads to pride in community. This is not difficult.
No bumper sticker was a sure giveaway.

That’s it for this morning. What a week it was. I feel like I’m getting back into the swing of things. I annoy people on social media. I’ve been focusing on the missing items for the last six weeks. In late May and June I returned to find the little nuggets that had eluded me.
