Spain: British fugitive, 44, convicted of sexual assault arrested in Benidorm | World | News

Spanish police in Benidorm have arrested a British fugitive convicted of sexually assaulting two people. A British court found the 44-year-old man guilty of crimes he committed before fleeing.
He had been on bail and was awaiting sentencing when he fled the UK, leading British authorities to issue an International Arrest Warrant. The man was arrested by Policia Nacional officers after he was spotted acting suspiciously at the hotel complex. Unable to provide any identification to the police, he was escorted to his rooms, where police officers searched him.
They quickly realized the man was wanted and he was detained, now awaiting extradition to the UK.
He was placed under the jurisdiction of the National Supreme Court, which handled the extradition process.
According to reports, the 44-year-old man faces 10 years in prison when he returns to the UK.
Benidorm is a popular year-round holiday destination for Brits, with around 900,000 people visiting the resort in 2024.
But the once thriving tourist destination has been described as a “ghost town” after visitors abandoned the area.
The footage shows the usually bustling resort town being less crowded than usual.
Videos of Benidorm shot in August this year showed empty streets.
