Meghan’s birthday silence for Princess Catherine was a ‘power play’ | UK | News

Prince Harry has sought to regain his position within the Royal Family following his apparent rift following his departure from Royal duties in 2020.

The divide, which deepened when Harry discussed family tensions with his father King Charles and brother Prince William in a Netflix series alongside his autobiography Spare, may be healing. In 2025, the 41-year-old Duke of Sussex revealed in an interview that he wanted to rebuild relations with his father, even taking a few trips to the United Kingdom to mend ties.

Currently, Harry’s relationship status with his 43-year-old older brother Prince William remains unclear. Still, there is speculation that Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle, is trying to reconcile with the Princess of Wales.

Prince William’s wife, Princess Catherine, recently celebrated her birthday, and to commemorate the milestone, she posted a “deeply personal” video on Instagram sharing her appreciation for the natural environment.

While the Royal Family usually acknowledges birthdays via social media, many observed that neither Harry nor Meghan wished the Princess a birthday wish.

Some sources told ShuterScoop that it was “deliberate” and calculated for the Sussex couple not to publicly wish Princess Catherine well on her birthday. “They’re making it clear they’re done. It’s a line in the sand,” a Royal insider told the publication.

Meanwhile, another insider predicted: “The Sussexes are still railing in the media but Kate? Calm, down-to-earth and moving forward. It’s a quiet power play.”

Among the sources who interpreted the move as a calculated “power play” was an insider who offered a contrasting perspective.

The insider claimed that the Hollywood actress just “wants to have some space for Catherine,” adding, “This is not a grudge, but a respect for what she’s going through.”

Catherine’s birthday video celebrated Mother Nature and acknowledged her restorative influence had touched her deeply following her cancer diagnosis at the beginning of 2024.

“Even in the coldest, darkest season, winter somehow brings us serenity, patience and silence, where the stream slows down just enough for us to see our own reflection.

“To discover the deepest parts of ourselves.

“Along with the whispers on the pulse of every living being, I find myself thinking about how grateful I am,” he said.

Catherine added, “For the rivers within us flow easily, fears are washed away, cleansed and purified.

“Discover what it means to make peace with our tears and to survive.

“To be one with nature; a silent teacher and a gentle voice that guides. In memory. To help us heal.”
