A30 crash: Boy, 8, killed in collison that left another boy seriously injured in multi-vehicle crash

An eight-year-old boy has died in a multi-vehicle collision on the A30 in Cornwall; Another child was left in a critical condition and a woman in her seventies was also seriously injured.

Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed the fatal incident occurred on the westbound carriageway near Connor Downs, near Hayle, on the morning of May 29. It was determined that the 8-year-old child died at the scene.

The five-year-old child, who was taken to Bristol Children’s Hospital, was stated to be in critical condition.

A woman in her seventies is being treated at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth for serious injuries. Another woman in her forties was also treated at Derriford Hospital before being discharged.

Police said two women and two children were traveling in the same vehicle.

A local man in his 60s has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. The slightly injured person was treated.

He was released under investigation while the investigation continues.

Detective Inspector Andy Heath, of Devon and Cornwall Police, said: “Our thoughts are with those affected by this incident.

“Experts from the Road Policing Team and the Serious Collision Investigation Team continued investigations over the weekend and the investigation team will be carrying out a number of inquiries over the coming weeks.

“It is not possible to provide detailed information about the cause of the collision and I ask the public not to speculate.

“Further information will be provided in due course. Our priority now is to support those directly affected by this tragic incident and secure the evidence needed for a thorough investigation.”
