Spain v Austria, Portugal v Croatia, Switzerland v Algeria Round of 32 games, standings, players, teams, schedule

A LOT happened yesterday, here’s everything you need to know in case you missed it:

England have spent most of their round of 32 matches against the Democratic Republic of Congo and look likely to exit the tournament. The game in Atlanta started with Brian Cipenga’s early goal in Congo and England could not respond… until the 75th minute when Captain Harry Kane grabbed the equalizer and gave them the second goal in the 86th minute.

Similarly, in Seattle, Senegal, which was leading until the 86th minute against Belgium, gained a comfortable two-goal lead with the goals of Habib Diarra in the 24th minute and Ismaila Sarr in the 51st minute. However, four minutes before the end of regular time, Belgium equalized with goals from Romelu Lukaku in the 86th minute and Youri Tielemans in the 89th minute. The game went into extra time where everything looked equal and was likely to result in a penalty shoot-out, until a very controversial VAR call earned Belgium a penalty kick in the fifth minute of added time until the second half of extra time – that’s a mouthful. Tielemans stepped up and scored for Belgium, sending them through to the round of 16 in heartbreak for the Senegalese who had spent an hour of normal time thinking the privilege would be theirs.
