‘Spending 3 hours daily on roads, plans to quit job…’: Burnout Bengaluru man’s house hunting struggle goes viral

From Simple Plan to Daily Challenge
“After working and living in Electronic City for 3 years, I changed my job to a company in MG Road. The joining date was January 1. “My plan was simple, travel from my apartment in the city for a month, find a new property and move out by February 1,” OP said.
Initially, the arrangement seemed manageable despite the long journey. “Even though I had to travel 52 km every day, the weather was cool, so I didn’t feel anything bad,” he wrote.

Limited Options in Prime Areas
For the first few weekends, he explored areas like Indiranagar, Domlur, Victoria Layout, Frazer Town and Richmond Town, hoping to find a one-bedroom flat with a budget of ₹25,000. But he soon realized the harsh reality of Bengaluru’s rental market.
Instead of finding multiple options, she encountered very few “for rent” signs and struggled to find suitable apartments in her preferred neighborhoods. He later turned to online platforms and even spent around ₹8,000 on premium services, but the experience continued to be disappointing.
“90% of the brokers gave me a ‘screw it’ attitude. Like, you buy it, or I’ll give it to someone else,” he wrote, adding that some brokers demand money just to show a property.
Exhausting Commute and Increasing Frustration
The user shared that many of the apartments he visited were either too small or located in areas he did not prefer. As the weeks passed, his search stretched into March with no success.
At the same time, their daily commutes were becoming increasingly tiring as temperatures rose. “I spend three hours every day on super hot roads. I have no energy at the office and after the office I wander around looking for a house,” he wrote.
The Agreement Drops at the Last Minute
He eventually agreed to rent a small flat in Domlur for ₹26,000 after being shown the property by a broker. But things took an unexpected turn when the broker asked him to wait before paying the token and promised to share the details later.
“Then I tried calling him starting Sunday. He blocked me,” the Reddit user wrote. When he visited the property himself, he discovered that it had already been rented to someone else.
After months of effort, the user said he decided to stop searching altogether. “I quit. After wasting so much time, energy and money… I stopped looking for a house. The burnout is so real that I’m honestly planning on quitting my job. BLR real estate is a joke,” he wrote.
Several users were satisfied with its experience. One user wrote, “I swear!! I’ve been looking for a house since January and haven’t found one yet.” ₹25k??? I stretched my budget to ₹40 lakh but still had no luck,” said another user.
