Traffic stop led to woman’s arrest, suspected cocaine and meth were found
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) – A woman is behind bars after the Grand Junction Police Department found suspected illegal drugs in her vehicle.

The incident occurred around 3:55 pm on Wednesday, when police conducted a traffic stop after spotting a vehicle with an expired registration. According to GJPD, during the investigation, K9 Loki alerted officers to the possibility of narcotics inside the car.
Officers seized approximately 30 grams of suspected cocaine, approximately 4 grams of suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Michelle Nielson, 38, was arrested and transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility. Booked for:

Possession with intent to distribute a Schedule I/II controlled substance

Unlawful possession of more than 4 grams of a Schedule I/II controlled substance.

Illegal possession of less than 4 grams of a Schedule I/II controlled substance.

Expired license plates or registrations
GJPD has stated that it believes this is an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the community. The investigation continues.
Nielson appeared in court Thursday and was granted $2,500 personal recognizance bail. The 21st Judicial District Attorney’s Office said he believed he could be “managed safely in the community,” adding that he was dealing with substance abuse rather than illegal drug distribution.
