Starmer exits PMQs for final time to standing ovation from MPs | News

Sir Keir Starmer wrapped up his final PMQs as prime minister and Labor leader to a standing ovation.

Last month Sir Keir resigned after almost two years in power following recent record local election losses and mounting pressure from his own MPs. His successor, Andy Burnham, is expected to become prime minister on Monday, July 20.

Addressing the House of Commons for the last time as leader, the outgoing prime minister said: “To everyone in the gallery whose lives have been changed or improved by this Labor government, and to everyone across the country who is struggling to be seen or heard, you are the reason I got into politics.”

“To my wife and children, I love you. Goodbye,” he said, as MPs stood and applauded him, before walking over to shake the speaker’s hand.
