Starmer hints at bank holiday if England are victorious at World Cup

It is said that Sir Keir Starmer will go on public holiday if England win the World Cup.

The Prime Minister has hinted the country will be given a day off to celebrate its first win in 60 years, but he is not expected to confirm any plans until the final.

It is thought that the bank holiday could be on Friday, July 24, which would give the team enough time to recover from the previous Sunday’s final match.

Speaking to reporters at the NATO summit on Wednesday, Sir Keir said: “I don’t want to jinx it but ask me again if we’ve made it to the final.”

Having won 3-2 against Mexico, England is preparing for the quarter-final match against Norway in Miami on Saturday.

If England win, they will play Argentina or Switzerland in Atlanta on July 15.

Speaking from Ankara, Türkiye, Sir Keir praised Monday’s win over Mexico as “one of the best England performances I have ever seen”.

Norwegian prime minister Jonas Gahr jokingly reminded Store that England had only won the World Cup under a Labor government.

“I’m a good friend of his,” he told reporters.

“Norway-UK relations are stronger than ever and he is a key figure in the coalitions we have formed.

“But we will have to go different ways going into the game for the 90 minutes on Saturday night.”

Donald Trump says Jarell Quansah is resisting calls to overturn his red card against Mexico after convincing FIFA to suspend US player Folarin Balogun’s ban and allow him to play against Belgium.

“I can’t tell you how many messages I had to receive to cancel the red card we received in the early hours of Monday morning,” he said.

“I hasten to add that I did not attempt to do so.”

Many English fans were left disappointed after a bank holiday was declared in June to celebrate Scotland’s first appearance in the men’s football finals in decades.

King Charles has approved a proposal put forward by First Minister John Swinney, who wants to allow Scots to celebrate the great return.

Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch said he would “probably” not support a bank holiday if England won the World Cup.

“Unfortunately, we all know what happens during the bank holiday – the private sector is still working, the public sector will have a day off and you will all have to pay for it,” he said.
