Starmer plots ultimate Brexit betrayal to hand swathes of power back to EU | Politics | News

Keir Starmer is set to set his own laws, blasting Britain’s new-found democratic sovereignty to pick a fight with Nigel Farage.

The Prime Minister is reportedly planning brand new legislation that would give some of the key decision-making powers back to Brussels as part of his ideological crusade to quietly reverse Brexit.

The new legislation is set to give the EU the sole right to change large areas of British law, such as food standards, animal welfare and the environment.

However, as before, the UK, as an EU member state, will no longer have the power to influence the laws and bureaucrats enacted by Brussels bureaucrats.

The move will fuel accusations that Keir Starmer undemocratically overturned the 2016 referendum results without any authority.

Earlier this week Sir Keir Starmer admitted he was finally ready to move closer to the EU’s Single Market.

Labour’s 2024 election manifesto promised “there will be no return to the single market, customs union or freedom of movement”, while speaking on Laura Kuenssberg’s program on Sunday, Sir Keir said: “I think we have to get closer and if it is in our national interest to be even more closely aligned with the single market then we should consider, we should go that far.”

“I think it is in our national interest to go further.

“I can say this about the customs union: I have defended the customs union with the EU for many years, but now a lot of water has flowed under the bridge.

“Why do people ask, ‘Wouldn’t it be better if we went to the customs union?’ I understand what you say. In fact, I think that we have now made agreements with the USA that are in line with our national interests, and agreements with India that are in line with our national interests; “I think it would be better for us to look at the single market rather than the customs union to achieve greater harmony.”

Ministers this evening insisted plans to give Brussels major powers over the British way of life will not make much difference overall as many manufacturers already comply with EU law to export to the continent.

However, this will reduce the need for expensive and time-consuming paperwork for businesses and farmers who want to export to the EU.

Labor has said it is “very happy to fight” with Reform UK over the Brexit culture war in the hope of bringing abandoned left-wing voters back into Labour’s fold, away from the Greens and Jeremy Corbyn’s Your Party.

Responding to the Prime Minister’s comments on Sunday, UK Reform MP Richard Tice said: “This stubborn Remain Prime Minister, surrounded by a cabinet of other parties, is determined to bring Britain back into Brussels’ orbit at any cost.

“Closer alignment with the single market would mean ceding our hard-won sovereignty and accepting freedom of action. It would shatter another Labor election promise and betray the millions who voted to take back control of our borders. Why would we want to move closer to a failed EU economic model with Germany in recession?”
