President Donald Trump criticized ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos during a meeting with Argentine President Javier Milei on Tuesday.

Trump mocked Stephanopoulos’ name, saying with apparent sarcasm, “We’re going to take a few questions from the news, and I’m sure they’ll be very non-hostile and friendly, just like JD did a very ‘friendly’ interview with George Slopadopoulos.” he said.

Referring to ABC’s lawsuit, Trump continued, joking: “Last time we were here, he was nice enough to pay me $16 million – he had to pay $16 million. That’s good. It was worth it. It was worth someone lying. If you get $16 million, that’s good.”

He then criticized Vice President J.D. Vance’s recent interview with the Disney-owned network.

“JD had a very bad person interviewing him, and we can’t let that happen. It’s inappropriate to interrupt a highly respected Vice President of the United States mid-sentence. I guess that’s one way to win an argument. It was the only way he could win the debate. It was highly inappropriate, I want to tell you that.”

Trump later announced that he would not take questions from “ABC fake news.”

In an interview Sunday, Vance argued with Stephanopoulos; The vice president denied that border czar Tom Homan had taken bribes and accused the ABC anchor of losing credibility, which led to the interview ending abruptly.

Stephanopoulos pressed Vance repeatedly on whether Homan accepted the money, saying Homan “was recorded on an audiotape in September 2024, an FBI surveillance tape, accepting $50,000 in cash.”

Vance said, “I don’t know which tape you’re talking about, George. I’ve seen media reports that Tom Homan accepted bribes. There’s no evidence of that. And here’s why fewer and fewer people are watching your show and why you’re losing credibility.” he said. “Because right now you’re talking to the Vice President of the United States about this story about Tom Homan, which I’ve read about but I don’t even know the video you’re talking about.”

After Vance suggested they move on to a different topic, Stephanopoulos objected and ended the interview.

“Peace in the Middle East? China threatening critical supply chains? Government shutdown? George S doesn’t care about that. He’s here to focus on the real story: a fake scandal involving Tom Homan,” Vance wrote on social media after the interview.

ABC News did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
