Starmer’s head of communications Steph Driver quits in latest No 10 exit | Keir Starmer

Keir Starmer’s communication chairman Steph Driver announced that he had left the latest Downing Street, the latest in a series of reliable assistance to the prime minister who has left the number 10 in recent months.

The separation of Driver, who spent five years in Starmer’s Side as the opposition leader, comes a little more than a week after Paul Ovendon was left as the political strategy director of the PM before he became the Deputy Director and then the communication director at Downing Street.

In addition, this month, the Strategy Communication Director James Lyons-Sorry focused on daily issues-here remained only a year later.

Later, the reorganization of the CommS operation led to Tony Blair’s adviser Tim Allan, who continued to finance Starmer’s Government Communication General Manager Portland. While Driver and Lyons have equal status, Allan’s job made him more senior.

The driver was particularly valuable and reliable by Starmer, and it seems that the Prime Minister was among a number of high -level figures trying to convince him to stay.

It was the decision of the driver to go. The Prime Minister’s Chief of General Staff Starmer and Morgan McSweeney after talks with the new communication team structure, the driver decided to resign after a period of leave for a family law.

Starmer said: “Steph Driver has been a loyal and valuable member of my team for almost five years. Steph played a pioneering role in transforming the Labor Party and delivering our historical general election win. I will be grateful for a calm, wise consultant, leadership and humor.

Driver said: “It was an honor to work with the opposition and the government with Keir and to give advice. Being a part of the team to rebuild and re -brand the Labor Party before securing a historical general election victory is a similar success and experience.

Orum I am proud of what this government has already submitted, and I would like to thank the sharp and talented No 10 press team for its strict work and support during my mission.

“I am grateful to the Prime Minister for his belief in me and my work and a open door offer in the future. The workers’ government has an unchanging support.”

Almost always on the side of Starmer, especially during the election campaign, the driver was a constant being in the press operation and was seen as loyal and infallible to his colleagues and journalists.

After winning the Labor election, he initially served as Deputy Director of Communication to Matthew Doyle, like Allan, the veteran of Blair years, working for Starmer since 2021.

In March, Doyle said that he had stopped the role nine months later in number 10.

This repeated confusion was partly associated with concerns that the Downing Street Communications have been a weakness for Starmer since he became Prime Minister. However, a number of wider mishaps and mistakes, including the Backbench rebellion on the amendments to the welfare and the dismissal of Peter Mandelson as the Ambassador of Washington, left a number of wider mishaps and mistakes, believing that many workers’ deputies were the lack of political judiciary.
