State Department aware after American tourists attacked, 1 killed, in Portugal

The State Department told Fox News on Wednesday that it was aware of reports that two American tourists were attacked at a popular European beach resort, and that local media said one person was killed and another was injured.

The alleged attack took place early Wednesday in Cascais, Portugal, a seaside resort about 20 miles west of Lisbon.

According to media reports, video taken by Reuters showed blood stains on the pavement where the stabbing took place during the robbery attempt.

A State Department spokesperson told Fox News that the agency takes seriously its commitment to protect U.S. citizens on board and stands ready to provide consular assistance.

“One of the young people died at the scene, and the other was injured in his face and arms and was taken to hospital. [a] hospital”, Portuguese Resident The newspaper included these words of the Lisbon Metropolitan Command police force.

The newspaper added that the attack was carried out by three suspects who fled the scene in a vehicle.
