The US State Department warned on Saturday that there were “credible reports” that Hamas could disrupt the peace agreement with a “planned attack” on Palestinian civilians.

“This planned attack on Palestinian civilians would constitute a direct and serious violation of the ceasefire agreement and undermine the important progress achieved through mediation efforts,” the ministry said in a statement on social media. he said. “The guarantors demand that Hamas fulfill its obligations under the ceasefire conditions.”

The statement said: “The United States and other guarantors remain committed to ensuring the safety of civilians, maintaining calm on the ground, and advancing peace and prosperity for the people of Gaza and the region as a whole.”

A ceasefire between Israel and Hamas came into force last weekend after two years of war in the region following the attacks in southern Israel on October 7, 2023.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that if Hamas continues its attack, “measures will be taken to protect the people of Gaza and the integrity of the ceasefire.”

On Thursday, President Donald Trump issued a warning to Truth Social after images of Hamas fighters executing Palestinians in Gaza City’s main square went viral.

“If Hamas continues to kill people in Gaza, which was not the agreement, we will have no choice but to go in there and kill them,” he wrote.
