State Development director-general steps down after 42-year career
Public service heavyweight John Sosso has announced plans to retire next Friday, ending a 42-year career working for the Queensland government.
Deputy Prime Minister Jarrod Bleijie said in a statement released on Friday afternoon that the chief executive of State Development has stepped down for health reasons.
“Mr. Sosso has made a remarkable contribution to public administration,” Bleijie said.
“In recognition of over 40 years of public service, I recognize John’s unwavering dedication, leadership and contribution to Queensland’s economic and social development.”

Sosso first worked in the policy and legislation branch of the Department of Justice in 1984, and later served as director general of the Department of Justice and director general of the Department of Consumer Affairs.
He was also deputy director-general in the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet under Campbell Newman, the last LNP prime minister before David Crisafulli.

Bleijie said Sosso had served on both sides of politics and had been “instrumental in implementing the important work of the Crisafulli Government.”
State Development deputy general manager Shaun Ferris will take over Sosso’s role in an acting capacity from next Friday.
