State govt. librarian found dead in Malkhed after being depressed over unpaid salary

The 40-year-old librarian, who was facing difficulties due to non-payment of salary for the last three months, committed suicide at the state-run Arivu Kendra library in Malkhed village of Sedam taluk in Kalaburagi district on Monday.

The deceased, whose name was stated to be Bhagyavanti Aggimath, ended his life by leaving a note behind.

In his note, Bhagyavanti wrote that he was depressed because he could not meet his family’s financial needs because he had not received his salary for the last three months.

In the note, it was stated that senior officials were not aware of his situation despite repeated requests because he had to pay his household expenses and the school fees of his two children.

Meanwhile, grieving family members blamed department officials for his death and demanded compensation and reinstatement of one of the family members.
