After 20 years on tour, Wawrinka is keen to finally play in Perth
“A year is a long time, hopefully there is still a lot of tennis to be played and hopefully at a good level.
“I still have goals. I hope I can get into the top 100 and finish with a big ranking at my age.”
Even though she’s been on the professional tennis circuit for two decades, Wawrinka said she can still find unique moments to enjoy and challenges to look forward to.
“Starting in Perth is special for me because I’ve been on tour for 20 years and you can’t play a new tournament in a new city every week and that’s what this week will be like, so I’m looking forward to that,” he said.
“Of course I’m still passionate about the game and the sport I love.
“I still hope that I can get good results. I want to finish my career on a good level and still be able to play with the best players.”
“I want to play all year round and I want to play in the main tournaments, but we’ll see where I’m at in a few months.”
Tournament director Stephen Farrow said that the fact that many famous players from abroad came to the competition increased the excitement of the United Cup.
The Unified Cup kicks off at the RAC Arena on Friday, with Spain taking on Argentina during the day before Greece face Japan in the night session.
Australia will begin their tournament against Norway in Sydney on the night of January 3.
