“Probably, I mean, I don’t have a real relationship with any of these fans. It seems like there’s a lot of different things being said all the time, some well-intentioned, some not. I think there’s a mentality of you pay for a ticket, you say whatever the hell you want. I think there should be some code of conduct. Obviously it was intentional and I think there was a celebration for him afterwards.”

“Frankly, don’t turn a blind eye to what DK is doing. [Metcalf] did. I get it, I’ve had a lot of crazy comments made to me over the years. The truth is this will never happen face to face. You know, even some of the people that hate me the most in the cities that I’ve played against over the years, especially in the NFC North, some of those people are always pretty friendly when you see them out there. But in this environment, you know, there are a lot of things being said. There are two sides to every story. And I support DK. I will continue to support DK. And that point happened.”

Rodgers said there are several factors as to why negative fan interactions have increased over the years.

He noted how fantasy football, sports gambling and social media use, while they have some benefits, are increasing and coming out of the shadows and into normal life.

“Can we also say that maybe attitudes have changed a little bit over the years, as you’ve seen some erosion in some segments of society,” Rodgers said. he said. “I’m all for trash talk now, and you know Dawg Pound has a great fan base (in Cleveland). I like to joke with the fans. The other day I was joking with a fan in the stands. He was yelling a bunch of things at me and his voice cracked. I was making fun of it, but there’s a line, I think there’s a line that shouldn’t be crossed.

“You don’t hear a lot about games being played at Lambeau over the years. These are some of the best fans you can imagine. You’re a visiting fan, you’re out there wandering around Lombardi, you’re finding your way to the tailgate. You’ve probably got a beer in your hand, maybe PBR and brat, it’s not the same everywhere in the league.”
