8 dead, 20 injured as car gets crushed between 2 container trucks in Pune

Following the accident, traffic was stopped on the Bengaluru-Mumbai lane of the highway.
Pune News: Eight people were killed and 20 injured when a car was crushed between two large container trucks that caught fire on a bridge on the Mumbai-Bengaluru Expressway in Pune city on Thursday, police said. They said that the accident occurred in the evening on the Navale Bridge.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) Sambhaji Kadam said, “According to preliminary information, a heavy container truck was traveling on the highway towards Mumbai. When it reached the bridge, its driver lost control of the truck due to suspected brake failure. This large vehicle then hit another large container that was moving forward. However, a car traveling between these two containers was crushed.” he said.
He said the accident caused a huge fire and entered the vehicles. “6 people died and more than 10 people were injured in the accident,” the official said. He said efforts were continuing to remove the bodies from the dismembered remains and the injured were taken to hospital.
Provincial Police Chief Amitesh Kumar, who visited the scene, said, “A fire broke out due to the impact of the collision.” In the videos that emerged after the accident, it is seen that the car was stuck between two heavy vehicles as a result of a huge fire. Following the accident, traffic was stopped on the Bengaluru-Mumbai lane of the highway, and efforts are continuing to remove the damaged vehicles.
