Stinky scents lead to one in 10 refusing second date

Would you refuse to go on a second date if they were wearing bad perfume?
According to new research from Aldi, a staggering 40% of people want this; Almost one in 10 people admit to going so far as to end a relationship because of their partner’s odor.
The survey of 2,000 UK adults also found that the country’s biggest odor, ‘ick’, is caused by wearing too much perfume or aftershave; 37% of people agree; One that smells like air freshener comes in second on the list, and another 37% agree.
Covering post-exercise sweat with deodorant instead of taking a shower came third on the list, with 36 percent of people calling it one of the biggest crimes, while cologne containing chemicals came in fourth place, while having to smell something that smells like an ex-lover or family member rounded out the top five.
Fragrance trends pop up regularly on TikTok, with 19% of Brits citing “TikTok made me buy this” among their biggest scent red flags.
Despite this, 21% of people admitted to discovering perfumes and aftershaves online; 19% said they even bought a fragrance because they saw it being talked about on social media.
The research also found that 67% of Brits believe cheap knockoffs smell better than expensive designer originals, and more than half of those surveyed said they received more compliments when they used an affordable fragrance alternative rather than a designer scent.
Julie Ashfield, Commercial Director at Aldi UK, said of the new research: “It’s official, we’re a nation of fragrance lovers. Our new research shows shoppers are becoming more sophisticated and are increasingly turning to affordable options that offer quality and scent.”
“That’s why we’re excited to launch our newest fragrance line, offering our customers luxury without the premium price tag.”
