Daughter opens up on ‘tough time’ as 13-year mystery finally solved | UK | News

The 13-year-old mystery has finally been solved when the remains were found in woodland near Huddersfield earlier this year. Much-loved dad Kevin Judge disappeared from the Lupset area of Wakefield in April 2013.

The famous grandfather of four, who was 68 years old when he disappeared, was dropped off home in a taxi on April 15 after spending time in Wakefield city centre. When her daughter came to visit the next day, she was nowhere to be found. Concerned for his safety, his family feared he might have been murdered and began to wonder whether he was alive or dead.

West Yorkshire Police told the family this week they did not believe there were any suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.

The discovery of the remains led to an investigation by the West Yorkshire Homicide and Major Investigation Team (HMET).

Kevin’s daughter Louise Wilson told Yorkshire Live she was “somewhat relieved” to finally learn what happened to her beloved father.

She described her father as “a bit of a character”, describing him as a “typical Yorkshire man”. Louise said she did not know why she ended up in woodland near Emley as the area was not on her usual bus route, but suggested she may have been suffering from the early stages of dementia, although she had not been formally diagnosed.

Admitting the news was “bittersweet”, she said: “I thought he had been murdered. It was very strange how he disappeared.” He added: “It’s a mystery why he went that way. He loved walking but I don’t know why he went there.”

Louise revealed that family members, including her mother Sheila, who remained close to Kevin after the divorce, never stopped thinking about and calling him.

He said: “My mother died three years ago. He was always worried about her. He talked about her two or three times a week and was always looking at the newspapers. He was always thinking about her.”

Posting on social media, Louise said: “I’m writing to let you know that the remains found in Huddersfield have been identified as my father’s. It’s a difficult time but at least the mystery has been solved after 13 years. “It looks like my father may have died of a heart attack.

“I want to thank everyone who called and asked about him over the years; it means a lot. Rest in peace dad (Kevin Judge).”

West Yorkshire Police has been approached for comment.
