Stockport train station LIVE: Bomb squad on the scene as people urged ‘do not travel’ | UK | News

Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams are at the scene on Rum Street, along with police and fire and rescue teams. A major emergency services presence followed the discovery of a “suspicious” suitcase on the railway station footbridge over the railway line.

A spokesman for Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “Just before 6pm this evening (Tuesday, November 4), firefighters were called to Greek Street in Stockport to reports of a suspicious item.

“Two fire engines from Stockport and Whitehill fire stations, as well as the technical rescue unit from Ashton fire station, are currently at the scene where a suitcase was left on the footbridge next to Stockport railway station.

“Firefighters are working with Greater Manchester Police and Network Rail to secure the area while they wait for the bomb squad to arrive. There is currently a 200 meter cordon around the scene and trains to and from Stockport station have been stopped until further notice.”
