Storm Chandra flood warnings map as ‘danger to life’ risk looms | UK | News

Numerous weather warnings have been issued, including several for rain, with heavy showers predicted across the South West and North West of England at various times. Snowfall is also expected, with the most significant rainfall predicted to occur in Scotland and Northern England. The Environment Agency has warned Britons of potential flooding and warned that roads will become dangerous due to logging. The RAC urged drivers to “slow down and remain alert” throughout the day.
Properties and commercial facilities are at risk of flooding that can cause structural damage. The Met Office also warned that landslides could occur in sensitive areas.
There are currently 67 flood warnings active in England and two in Scotland. Most of these relate to waterways in the south-west of England, including the Dorset National Landscape and many alerts across Devon.
According to the Met Office website: “Storm Chandra will bring persistent rain, at times heavy, later on Monday and overnight, before falling steadily north-eastwards on Tuesday morning. 30-50mm of rainfall is likely to occur widely, with 60-80mm likely over some higher elevations, particularly south Dartmoor.”
If it falls on saturated ground, it could cause flooding and disruption, especially on Tuesday morning. “Strong winds are also expected from the southeast.”
The Met Office has warned of 60-70mph winds affecting eastern Northern Ireland and warned of potential 75mph winds in coastal areas, stating that “winds of this strength coming from the east are unusual and are likely to be effective”. Despite this, flooding remains a key concern in many areas, with Express providing a comprehensive overview of flood risks.
