Kite Down! Zerodha issues statement, says use Kite WhatsApp backup to manage trades — Here’s what the company says

Online brokerage Zerodha released an official statement on Friday, December 5, 2025, stating that Cloudflare’s cross-platform downtime was the reason for the sudden outage on the company’s Kite trading platform.

Zerodha also suggested customers use Kite WhatsApp as a backup to manage their transactions in case of a sudden outage in systems or website.

“Due to a cross-platform outage at Cloudflare, Kite is currently unavailable. Please use the Kite WhatsApp backup to manage your transactions while we investigate,” the company said in a post on X.

The Cloudflare service issue affected not only Zerodha but all major online Indian brokers like Groww and Angel One, among others.

Non-commercial companies such as AI chatbot Claude, Perplexity, MakeMyTrip, and several other applications based on Cloudflare architecture were also affected due to the sudden disruption in services. Friday’s outage marks the second major Cloudflare-related outage in recent months.

Have kite services been restored?

In a separate post on X, Zerodha said the Cloudflare global outage has now been resolved and Kite services have been restored to normal, where traders can trade as per their needs.

The company also apologized for the inconvenience caused to its users due to the sudden service outage on Friday, December 5, 2025.

“Update: Cloudflare global outage has been resolved. Kite services have been restored. You can now trade as normal. We are sorry for the inconvenience,” Zerodha said in a separate post on X.

Cloudflare’s response to the outage

On Friday, December 5, 2025, Cloudflare confirmed that parts of its network were experiencing outages while it was conducting planned maintenance on its systems.

According to Cloudflare System Status page data, maintenance activity began on December 5 at 09:00 UTC. The notice also stated that planned maintenance is ongoing and updates will be followed as necessary.

“A fix has been implemented and we are monitoring the results,” the company said.

Cloudflare also emphasized that the company is investigating an increase in bugs affecting customers running Workers scripts. The company is also analyzing the issue and working on a fix. Will provide more updates on the matter soon.

Data from industry outage tracker Downdetector showed that the Cloudflare outage witnessed more than 2,100 reports as of 1.50pm on Friday afternoon. Most of the people were reporting sudden outages on their websites, issues with server connections, and also some hosting issues.
