Storm system could bring light snow to tri-state area

NEW YORK (PIX11) — Expect early morning sunshine to give way to increasing clouds as a storm system approaches the area.

Temperatures will once again remain around seasonal norms, reaching the low 40s in most areas.

NYC forecast and PIX11’s Weather Center

Showers are expected in the southern half of New Jersey later Sunday evening, while light snow is expected elsewhere. The rain will continue until the night and early morning hours, and the heaviest snowfall will be seen at these hours.

Anywhere from a dusting to five inches of sleet accumulation is expected across five counties: Long Island, Connecticut, Westchester and the Hudson Valley. However, the northern half of New Jersey is expected to see about 1-2 inches of snow.

Since temperatures are more seasonal, between the upper 30s and mid-40s, snow can take a while to accumulate and snow totals can vary widely. Ongoing rains will end later in the morning.

We expect temperatures to remain around seasonal norms for most of next week. Afternoon high temperatures will primarily be in the 40s, and temperatures may even reach 50 degrees in some locations south of the city. Tuesday looks dry, but some rain is expected on Wednesday and Friday.
