Strong earthquake shakes Afghanistan and Pakistan

The European Mediterranean Seismological Center said a powerful earthquake hit Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region and tremors could be felt from the capital Kabul across the border into neighboring Pakistan.

Daniyal Ahmad, who lives in the Swat region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in northern Pakistan, told Reuters that people were running out of their doors in panic.

There were no immediate reports of casualties.

“It was huge here in Swat and went on for quite some time,” he said.

“People came out of their homes, and women and children were seen crying in panic.”

In the statement made by the Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority, it was stated that there was no official report of any loss of life or damage, but controls continued.

EMSC said that the magnitude 6 earthquake occurred at a depth of 100 km.

A 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck Pakistan early on Saturday, according to the EMSC.
