Subrata Gupta, EC’s special observer for SIR, appointed West Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari’s advisor

Kolkata, Retired IAS officer Subrata Gupta was appointed as advisor to West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday, according to a notification.

Gupta, an officer of the 1990 batch, was appointed by the Election Commission as a Special List Observer in the SIR exercise held before the recently concluded assembly elections.

“Gupta’s vast experience is expected to help the new administration on matters related to policy coordination and governance,” an official said.

According to another notification, the new BJP government has also appointed IAS officer Shantanu Bala as private secretary to the chief minister.

Bala, an officer of the 2017 batch, was additional district judge of South 24 Parganas in his last assignment.


“Bala’s appointment is part of the restructuring in the Prime Minister’s Office following the change of government,” another official said.
According to the notices, both officers were asked to assume responsibility for their new duties immediately.
