Sudha Murty reveals secret behind her happy marriage with Infosys founder Narayana Murthy: ‘You should never get upset together because…’

Speaking at the India Today Convocation in 2024, Sudha Murty gently said, “When you get married, you have to fight. Accept that.” “If you’ve never fought, you’re not husband and wife.”

At a time when social media is full of filtered holiday and anniversary photos and reels of “perfect” couples, Sudha Murty shared the secret of happy marriage: accepting one’s partner as they are, including their strengths and weaknesses, and working together as a couple. “There is no perfect couple in this world. Life is a give and take. It comes with its pros and cons and I have my own pros and cons,” Ms. Murty said at India Today Conclave 2024.

Sudha Murty’s mantras to resolve conflicts in marriage

Speaking about conflict resolution in marriage, Sudha Murty said at India Today Conclave 2024: “When you are married, you have to fight. Accept that. If you have never fought, then you are not husband and wife. When you fight and one person is upset, the other should remain calm and not open his mouth.” Citing herself and Narayan Murthy as examples, Sudha Murty said: “I will never talk when Murthy is angry. Let it spill. I will not talk. When I get angry, he stays silent. In real life, I stay silent most of the time. You should never be sad together because this is a recipe for fights later.”

Who is Sudha Murty?

Sudha Murty is a member of Rajya Sabha, author, philanthropist, educationist, engineer and speaker. Sudha Murty has won numerous awards. Born and brought up in Karnataka, Sudha Murty completed her Masters in Computer Science and is the founder of Infosys Foundation and currently the Chairman of Murty Trust. He is a prolific writer and has written more than 40 books, including the best-selling Three Thousand Stitches, Dollar Bahu and Wise and Otherwise.
